Gary Smith's winning image of a Robin
Judge's comments: "The composition and lighting in this image are excellent. The bird's eyes, beak and claws are pin sharp while the background is nicely out of focus helping to provide separation between the bird and background. The photographer has thoughtfully placed the bird on one of the intersecting thirds with space to the right for the bird to look in to. An excellent image all round and a worthy winner."
Runners up
2nd Paul Nicholson's Damselfly
Judge's comments: "The photographer has handled the composition and lighting extremely well showing the delicate translucence of the wings while maintaining pin sharp focus across the damselfly's body. The background is smooth and uncluttered which helps to separate the damselfly from the background. A well seen and taken image which only missed first place by the narrowest of margins."

3rd Birgit Pettifor's snow-covered landscape
Judge's comments "The subject of this image is really the beautiful, fierce looking sky adding to the already cold feeling this image invokes."
