RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
Every year in late January the RSPB organise a garden bird survey across the UK. This simple survey involves watching the birds in your garden for one hour during a three day period and counting the maximum number of birds for each species seen.
In 2022 a huge number of 697,735 people counted 11,556,046 birds. The first survey took place in 1979 and so there are now over 40 years of data to help understand how garden birds are faring in the UK.
Details about the survey can be found here. In 2024 the event took place between Friday 26 January and Sunday 28 January.
Every year a number of people in Plumpton and East Chiltington carry out this survey and the results for all the years since 2016 can be seen by clicking the links below.
Special thanks must go to Tony Hutson for taking the trouble to collate all this data over many years and to all the people who have taken the time to carry out the survey.
