Spare a thought for this little chap, the Swollen-thighed Beetle (Oedemera nobilis). There are a lot of these green-winged beetles around the garden at the moment. Only the males have the swollen femora; the females have less shapely thighs. They feed on pollen and nectar from many different plant groups, including the asteraceae, in this case an ox-eyed daisy growing in my mini meadow. It is present across Western Europe and in England it is expanding its range northwards, currently up to the North Midlands.
